Hu handed over a list of medical supplies donation by all circles of China to Sri Lanka, along with an experience report ‘China’s Fight Against COVID-19’
On 29 April, Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese embassy Hu Wei paid a courtesy call to H.E President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and had a long and in-depth talk regarding collaboration between the two countries on fighting COVID-19 and enhancing bilateral economic and commercial relations after pandemic.
Hu handed over a list of medical supplies donation by all circles of China to Sri Lanka, along with an experience report ‘China’s Fight Against COVID-19’, emphasizing that China cherishes its relations with Sri Lanka and highly appreciates the firm support from Sri Lanka when the coronavirus broke out in Wuhan.
The Chargé d’affaires reiterated that China will continue to provide all possible assistance within its capacity to Sri Lanka to fight the pandemic, and announced that soon will arrive the next batch of China Aid, including another 30k test kits, 30k PPEs, 30k N95 masks, 30k protective goggles and 600k surgical masks.
Hu stressed that China pays great attention to Sri Lanka’s concern on reviving the economy and overcoming current difficulties. China stands ready to work with Sri Lanka on how to enhance pragmatic cooperation and combat the prevailing challenge together, on the basis of mutual benefits.
The Chargé d’affaires also brought into the President’s attention that some foreign politicians and media, including very few media personnel in Sri Lanka are playing the dangerous game of politicization and stigmatization when the international community are busy fighting COVID-19. China would like to stand with Sri Lanka, to safeguard the multilateralism and support the WHO in playing its important role.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa applauded China’s remarkable achievement in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, assured Sri Lanka’s firm support to the WHO’s leadership, and opposed any acts of politicization or stigmatization in the anti-pandemic battle.
Underlining that a friend in need is a friend indeed, the President said Sri Lanka will never forget all the enormous help from China during its hard times including the civil conflict, post-war development and reconstruction after the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Noise from a handful of local media personnel can never represent the public voice of Sri Lankan people.
The Head of State pointed out that COVID-19 is yet another big challenge for Sri Lanka and the whole country highly appreciates the Chinese government, companies and citizens for their generous support. Sri Lanka expects further cooperation with China in combating the coronavirus and looks forward to China’s further assistance in Sri Lanka’s economy revival and a comprehensive development of the island nation in the post-pandemic era.
