Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Congratulates FM Dinesh Gunawardena

On 12th August, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent his congratulation message to Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena for the latter’s being re-appointed as the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka. In the letter, Wang noted the stable development in bilateral relations and fruitful achievements in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative had been made. He pointed out that the friendship in weal and woe between China and Sri Lanka has been further strengthened in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.Wang stressed that China has always placed the relations with Sri Lanka as a significant priority in its external affairs. He highly values his friendship with Foreign Minister Gunawardena and stands ready to work together to strengthen the bilateral cooperation.On 14th January this year, Mr. Wang Yi met with his Sri Lankan counterpart in Colombo, and the two had a phone call on jointly fighting COVID-19 and promoting bilateral relations later on 24th April.
