On 22 August, a Ceremony of Starting up the Water Purification Equipment was held at A/Palugollewa Viduhala Primary School which enable hundreds of students and villagers in Ponewa, Vavuniya to drink purified water conveniently and thereafter. With the guidance of the most Ven Senior Professor Medwachchye Dhammajothi Thero, the Director of Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies of University of Kelaniya, and at the request of A/ Palugollewa Viduhala Primary School, the Chinese Monk Ven. SHI Miaozhi who is studying his Master Degree in Sri Lanka decided to encourage his Chinese devotees to donate a water purification equipment for this school since June, 2020.
Ponewa in northern Sri Lanka is in heavy trouble of severe kidney disease. Many local people had been suffering from the disease caused by drinking water problems. This poor village relies on Sri Lank Navy to deliver water to them every day with water tankers, which is very inconvenient.
With the uneasy situation caused by COVID-19 in the society, Ven. SHI Miaozhi tried his best to meet the budget by checking relevant local shops and departments to get the most economic cost with the high quality of the equipment, and then collect donations from Chinese devotees both in China and Sri Lanka, from the beginning to the end point Ven.SHI Miaozhi’s wish is to facilitate the water purification equipment for Ponewa as soon as possible. There’re 20 ordinary Chinese families provided their sincere support with their best wishes to the local community in Ponewa.
Ven. SHI Miaozhi also delivered 2500 face masks that donated by Ms. Zhang Li, owner of the 668 Chinese Restaurant in Colombo to Mr. Sarath the Principal of the school as an effective way to protect themselves from COVID-19.
